NGO-Online

April 3, 2008 by RootSpaceOnline

NGO-Online is a professional development, non-profit support, and digital divide project all rolled into one. RootSpace would coordinate and monitor website development and training for local/national non-profits, in collaboration with university web/tech/business/communication programs (such as for a senior seminar/project program), or a small team of recent graduates or interns.

This project addresses various issues at the same time:
(1) to develop websites for non-profits to help the organization achieve its strategic objective (with the understanding that a website is not an end in itself, but a means to an end, and also helps promote NGO transparency and accountability);
(2) give students a chance to work in a team (graphic design, web design, business, communications) and develop a real-world case study/portfolio project with the advice and guidance of professional mentors from companies or consultants in the local community (or abroad);
(3) making this a sustainable project and bridging the tech divide by conducting trainings (some by the students, some by others) for the non-profits in web/technology use, communications, organizational management, etc.

This project is in early development phase.
